Summer 2016/17
Summer Championships will be swum over two weekends 25 March and 1 April 2017.
I hope everyone has completed enough swims to qualify. If in doubt have a look at the Black Line Sheet, you can find that below or check out the glass windows at Club on Saturday.
If next to your child’s name is a black line that means they they have qualified for all swims in their age group. If there is a number next to their name that means they still have to swim that number of swims to qualify for Championships.
Entries are now open. Entry cards must be in on Saturday. Below you will find a Summer Championships Event List, this list will enable you to fill in your cards with the correct event numbers.
Even if you do not qualify for Championships you can still swim in the events as an exibition swimmer.
To enter Club Championships the swimmer must have recorded at least 8 freestyle swims (over any distance) then additionally 4 swims recorded for each form stroke and medley during the season.
If you have any questions regarding qualifying for Championships please see George Ross or Graham Ede.

This event is open to both boys and girls.
At the conclusion of the 4th Dash swim, the Race Committee will then select the 10 swimmers (5 boys & 5 girls) who will be invited to swim in the 25mtr Dash on Day 2 of Summer Championships.
This event is one of the highlight events of Summer Championships, very exciting and prestigious to be part of.
McAlpine Relay
All swimmers are eligible to chosen to swim in the exciting McAlpine Handicapped Relay. This relay is the second highlight of Day 2 of Summer Championships.
Freestyle events are swum on Day 1 of Championships and from these events the swimmers will be selected to swim in the McAlpine Relay, which is a relay made up of 4 teams of 13 swimmers.
This relay is a handicapped event and the fastest swimmers from the 25mtr and 50mtr individual Freestyle events are chosen to swim in this relay.
The seeding and handicapping for this relay event is a lenghty and complex process. If you are not coming on Day 2 of Championships or leaving early please let George Ross know ASAP so your child can be eliminated from the relay before the seeding process takes place.

What another exciting Summer Championships, we saw some intense competition, close finishes, many Pb’s and 9 new records set.
Day 1 started with the Breaststroke events and when we got to our ladies Over 35’s event we saw the first record broken, Well done Amanda this was the first of 4 records she would break over the 2 days of Championships.
Also on Day 1 Nicole broke 2 records in the Girls 18-20 years age group, Nicole went on and broke another record on Day 2. Congratulations Nicole.
Not to be outdone Chris W broke the Over 35’s backstroke record on Day 2, as did Robin E breaking her own record in the Over 35’s backstroke. Well done to both Chris and Robin.
The last event on Day 1 was the Freestyle events, and from these races the swimmers were selected for the McAlpine Relay which is swum on Day 2.
The racing in the younger age groups was hotly contested with many swimmers challenging for the top placings.
At the conclusion of Event 98, Day 1 of Championships were over, it was time to pack up and recover and return for another big day again next week.
Saturday 1 April rolled around very quickly and competition began again. Today after the Individual Medley and Backstroke events we contested the all exciting Boys & Girls 25mtr Dash and the McAlpine Relay.
Lining up for the Men’s 25mtr Dash were:-
Jesse Hanna, Jordan Henry, Blake McCarren, George Ross and Mitchell Ede
After the splash subsided George Ross had won the event in a time of 12.61secs with Blake in 2nd and Mitchell in 3rd.
Then it was the girls turn and on the blocks were:-
Miranda Watson, Andee Hardie, Nicole Chan, Mollie Hardie and Mallory Hull.
Congratulations to Nicole the women’s champion in a time of 14.16secs, with Andee in 2nd and Mallory in 3rd.
Now the handicapped McAlpine Relay, where 4 teams of 13 swimmers go head to head for the McAlpine Trophy.
Girls Team A was captained by Nicole Chan, Boys Team A was captained by Jordan Henry, Mixed Team A was captained by Mitchell Ede and Mixed Team B was captained by Kaitlin Ede.
Each team is made up of all age groups where the younger swimmers swim 25mtrs and the older swimmers 50mtrs. Kaitlin’s team swam in Lane 1 and went off first and after a long wait Mitchell’s team entered the water followed by Nicole’s team in Lane 3 then Jordan’s team in Lane 5. All teams are now in the water and who is in the lead is hard to keep up with. Swimmers dive in and swim their required laps and the excitement builds, it’s not until the last swimmer of each team enters the pool do we truly find out who is in the lead. George Ross is the last swimmer for Mixed Team A and he enters the water with Mixed Team B closing on him fast. The other two teams are also catching him and the end of the pool couldn’t come sooner, George touches in first place, with Kaitlin coming in 2nd, Jordan 3rd and Nicole 4th.
Another great McAlpine Relay has been swum and won. Congratulations to Mitchell and his team.
Congratulations to all our swimmers you all swam brilliantly and everyone achieved their own personal best in so many ways.
A big thank you to all the parents who help out at Club every week and to the committee members who work tirelessly behind the scenes, without all your help Peakhurst ASC would not exist.
